Sam co-founded NubAbility Athletics Foundation with his mother, Jana Kuhnert, to provide mentorship and sports training for limb-different youth.
Sam partners with various entities to bring people together with a mission-driven passion.

Sam Kuhnert, born with one hand, demonstrated athletic ability from an early age, becoming a three-letter athlete in high school and a college pitcher. At 17, he envisioned creating sports camps for other children with limb differences. This vision materialized into NubAbility, which he co-founded in 2011 with his mother, Jana Kaye Kuhnert. He began organizing camps annually starting in 2012, building NubAbility into a national organization focused on mentorship and sports training for limb-different youth. His work emphasizes empowering young athletes to embrace their potential without limitations.
Kuhnert graduated from Morthland College with a degree in business administration, where he also lettered in baseball. Following a career-ending injury, he served as Morthland’s pitching and strength and conditioning coach for two seasons. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his contributions, including being named one of ten Top Outstanding Young Americans by the national Jaycees in 2017 and receiving the Jaycees Outstanding Young Person of Illinois in 2016. Other accolades include the National Youth Activist Award from Man Up Against Bullying in both 2017 and 2018, the Fitness Ministry Award from Faith and Fitness Magazine in 2019, and the DuQuoin Citizen of the Year Award in 2015.
Beyond his leadership at NubAbility, Sam Kuhnert is a motivational speaker and author. His book, “Game Changer: How to Thrive When Life Doesn’t Go According to Plan,” was released in 2020. He actively works to show children how to discover their purpose and become impactful individuals in their own lives, regularly working with kids through NubAbility’s initiatives to foster confidence and resilience.
