Sammy Watkins

Sammy Watkins was born on June 14, 1993, in Fort Myers, Florida. He attended South Fort Myers High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track & field. Watkins became the all-time leading receiver in Lee County history, achieving 133 catches for 2,997 yards and 36 touchdowns during his high school career. As a junior and senior, he earned first-team all-state selections. He was a highly recruited five-star prospect and committed to Clemson University in November 2010. During his freshman season at Clemson in 2011, Watkins made an immediate impact, catching 82 passes for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns. He led the nation in reception yards per game, all-purpose yards, and touchdowns, also breaking 11 school freshman records. He earned prestigious honors as an Associated Press first-team All-American, becoming one of only four true freshmen ever to achieve this.

Watkins continued to be a significant player throughout his college career. In 2012, he recorded 57 receptions for 708 yards and three touchdowns. His junior year in 2013 saw him accumulate 101 receptions for 1,464 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named the MVP of the 2014 Orange Bowl, setting a record with 16 receptions for 227 yards against Ohio State. He concluded his college career by setting the school record for career receptions with 240. In January 2014, Watkins declared for the NFL draft. He was selected fourth overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, making him the first wide receiver picked by the Bills in the first round since 2004.

His professional career included stints with several NFL teams. After his time with the Buffalo Bills (2014-2016), where he set rookie records for receptions and receiving yards and recorded a career-high 1,047 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2015, he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2017. He later played for the Kansas City Chiefs (2018-2020), where he won Super Bowl LIV, and the Baltimore Ravens (2021 and 2022). Watkins also had a brief period with the Green Bay Packers in 2022 before returning to the Ravens. Throughout his career, he has accumulated 364 receptions, 5,384 receiving yards, and 34 receiving touchdowns. His career highlights include a 198-yard, three-touchdown performance in Week 1 of the 2019 season with the Chiefs and a 98-yard effort in Super Bowl LIV.
