Goran Visnjic

Goran Visnjic is a Croatian-American actor known for his extensive work in television and film, notably for his roles in the long-running medical drama ‘ER’ and the hit series ‘Timeless’. After becoming the youngest actor to secure the title role in Shakespeare’s Hamlet at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in 1994, a role he performed for seven consecutive years and for which he earned three national awards, Goran Visnjic established himself as a compelling dramatic talent. His screen debut was in the 1988 Yugoslavian film Braca po materi, followed by studies at the Academy of Dramatic Art. Visnjic’s talents soon garnered international attention with appearances in Hollywood productions such as The Peacemaker (1997), Welcome to Sarajevo (1997), and Practical Magic (1998).

His performance in Welcome to Sarajevo, specifically, led to significant career opportunities in the USA. In 1998, he further expanded his global profile with an appearance in Madonna’s music video for ‘The Power of Goodbye.’ Visnjic achieved widespread international recognition for his pivotal role as Dr. Luka Kovac in the critically acclaimed NBC medical drama ER, which he joined in 1999 following George Clooney’s departure. During his tenure on the series, Visnjic broadened his filmography with diverse projects.

Most recently, Visnjic expanded his historical portrayals, joining the cast of Netflix’s acclaimed series Vikings: Valhalla in 2024 as Erik the Red. This role further solidifies his diverse range and continued presence in high-profile productions across film and television.
