Sandra Sánchez Jaime was born on September 16, 1981, in Talavera de la Reina, Spain. Her karate journey began at age four, inspired by her brother, a path she pursued with determination despite initial parental reservations. She earned a degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (INEF) from the University of Castilla-La Mancha. Early in her career, caring for her mother briefly steered her away from elite sports training centers. However, her dedication to karate continued, including teaching classes in Australia. Upon returning to Spain, her partnership with trainer Jesús del Moral became a turning point, propelling her to elite recognition. In 2015, Sánchez achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Spanish karateka in the kata discipline to reach the top of the World Karate League rankings, defying earlier rejections by the Spanish national team that cited her age as a disadvantage. She spent two years in Dubai, teaching and competing for Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai FC, during which she secured two European championships.
Sánchez’s professional career was marked by consistent success and historical achievements. She was recognized by the World Karate Federation (WKF) in 2018 as the best female kata karateka in history, having maintained a top ranking for three consecutive years. Her competitive record includes numerous gold medals: an Olympic gold at the Tokyo 2020 Games, two World Championship golds (2018 and 2021), and seven European Championship golds (2015-2019, 2021-2022). She also secured gold medals at the European Games (2015, 2019), World Games (2022), Mediterranean Games (2016), and World Beach Games (2019), completing a clean sweep of major titles. Sánchez earned a Guinness World Record for winning the most medals in the Karate1 Premier League, with 35 consecutive medals between 2014 and 2020. She maintained the world No. 1 ranking for six consecutive years (2015-2019, 2021) and was an eight-time consecutive Spanish national champion (2015-2022).
After retiring from competitive karate in July 2022 following her World Games gold medal, Sánchez transitioned into leadership and entrepreneurship within the sports sector. She co-founded Chikaraclub.com with Jesús del Moral, an educational platform dedicated to karate training. She also established and serves as CEO of PodiumVIP.es, a platform connecting businesses with Olympic and Paralympic athletes to foster positive social impact. Her commitment extends to governance roles, including Head of the Athletes Committee in IWGA, MBA completion in La Liga, and membership in the Spanish Sports Advisory Council and the COE Athletes Commission. She authors children’s books, aiming to inspire younger generations through sports and literature. Her contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, such as the National Sports Award (2017) and the Marca Leyenda (2024).
