Sara Lopez

Sara José López Bueno was born on April 24, 1995, in Pereira, Colombia. She began her international career competing for the Colombian national team at the 2011 Pre-Olympic event in Medellin, Colombia. Over her career, she has achieved significant milestones, rising to a world ranking of 3 in 2013. A medical student alongside her athletic pursuits, Sara Lopez has become a dominant figure in compound archery, known for her precision and competitive spirit.

Her career is marked by consistent success in various international competitions. She won the Archery World Cup in 2014 and has secured an impressive nine World Cup Final individual gold medals. Lopez holds the world record for a 15-arrow round and has achieved 10 other world records. A notable achievement includes becoming the first woman to shoot a perfect 150 at Stage 3 of the World Cup in Medellín. In 2020, she won the inaugural World Archery Lockdown Knockout, defeating Anders Faugstad and donating her prize to COVID-19 charities. She continued her winning streak by being named the 2021 Athlete of the Year in the compound women category by World Archery Americas.

Lopez’s achievements extend to multi-sport events, including numerous medals at the World Championships, World Games, Pan American Games, Pan American Championships, Central American and Caribbean Games, South American Games, and Bolivarian Games. In 2021, she secured three gold medals at the World Archery Championships in Yankton, winning individual, team, and mixed team compound events. At the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, she won a silver medal in the women’s individual compound event and a gold medal in the mixed team compound event with Daniel Muñoz. Her consistent performance and multiple accolades have established her as one of the most successful archers in history, recognized by Guinness World Records.
