English theatre star and acclaimed actress Sarah Miles has been in many top films. The most notable roles of her career were in the likes of The Servant, Blowup and Ryan’s Daughter as well as Hope and Glory throughout the sixties seventies and eighties. Born in Essex, Sarah overcame a stammer and dyslexia to go on to attend Roedean and three other schools. She then took a place at the celebrated Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) at age just 15 years old and soon after she finished her learning there, she starred as Shirley Taylor in 1962’s Term of Trial alongside Laurence Olivier. Her role won her a rightful nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Newcomer.
Twice married and with one son, Sarah recently took part in Well at the Trafalgar Studios and the Apollo Theatre opposite Natalie Casey. She has also been in White Mischief, which was filmed in Kenya and saw her work for a second time with Trevor Howard, and her role as Anne Osborne in 1976’s The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea was nominated for a Golden Globe. Other credits in her fine filmography include The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing, and Sarah also acted in a manner of plays such as being Rosy in the lead part of David Lean’s Ryan’s Daughter in 1970. Another BAFTA nomination came for Best Actress for her part of Vera from Manchester in Joseph Losey’s The Servant in 1963. Another part came in Michelangelo Antonioni’s Blowup 1966 and all in all these roles have made her a true British great.
