Evan Olav Næss, known professionally as Evan Ross, was born on August 26, 1988, in Greenwich, Connecticut. He is the son of legendary singer Diana Ross and Norwegian businessman Arne Næss Jr. Ross began his career as an actor while a student at Greenwich High School. His acting debut was in the 2006 comedy-drama film “ATL.” He gained further recognition for his role as Amare McCarter in the HBO television film “Life Support” (2007) and for his performance in the biographical film “Pride” (2007), where he portrayed a teen with a speech impediment. His early career also included appearances in music videos for artists such as The Notorious B.I.G. and Lionel Richie.
Ross’s career advanced with a recurring role as Charlie Selby in The CW’s teen drama series “90210” from 2010 to 2011. He starred as Julie, the love interest of Hilary Duff’s character, in the 2009 comedy-drama “According to Greta.” A significant milestone in his film career was portraying Messalla in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” (2014) and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” (2015). He also appeared in the VH1 biopic “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” (2013) as music producer Dallas Austin. On television, he held a regular role as Angel Rivera in Fox’s musical drama series “Star” from 2017 to 2019 and as Diver Hawkes in ABC’s “Wicked City” in 2015.
Alongside his acting career, Ross pursued music, releasing his debut single “Yes Me” in 2011, followed by “How To Live Alone” in 2015, featuring rapper T.I. In 2018, he formed the musical duo Ashlee + Evan with his wife, Ashlee Simpson, releasing a collaborative EP and starring in a reality TV series of the same name. Ross has also engaged in various producing roles, with projects like “The Loneliest Boy in the World” (2022) as an executive producer and “The Beast Within” (2024) as a producer.
