Sarah Kate Silverman was born on December 1, 1970, in Concord, New Hampshire, and raised in Manchester and Bedford. She began her stand-up comedy career at age 17 in Boston. After attending New York University for a year, she moved to Greenwich Village to pursue comedy. In 1993, she joined Saturday Night Live as a writer and feature performer for one season. Although her sketches did not air, her time on the show was a formative experience, strengthening her resolve and shaping her distinct comedic voice. Post-SNL, Silverman appeared in HBO’s sketch comedy series Mr. Show (1995–1997) and the independent film Who’s the Caboose? (1997).

Her career expanded with guest roles in television shows like Star Trek: Voyager (1996), Seinfeld (1997), and Monk, which earned her a 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards nomination for “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.” Her film credits include School of Rock (2003) and critically acclaimed performances in I Smile Back (2015), which garnered a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination, and Battle of the Sexes (2017). Silverman found significant success with her concert film Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic (2005) and earned widespread recognition for her Comedy Central series, The Sarah Silverman Program (2007–2010), receiving an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series” and a Writers Guild Award nomination. In 2008, she won a Primetime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics” for her musical collaboration “I’m F*cking Matt Damon” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Demonstrating career longevity and versatility, Silverman continued to thrive in various mediums. She voiced Vanellope von Schweetz in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph (2012) and its sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018). Her memoir, The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee (2010), was adapted into an Off-Broadway musical in 2022, earning Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations for her writing.
