Best known for creating the daily online comic strip PvP, Scott Kurtz is an award-winning cartoonist, writer, artist, editor, and publisher. He currently runs his own self-publishing company and recently created a spin-off of PvP titled Table Titans.
Born in Watsonville, California, Scott Kurtz attended the University of North Texas where he created and published a daily comic strip in the student newspaper. He began to self-publish on the Internet and first launched PvP in May 1998. This led to a partnership with Image Comics, which published the print version of PvP for eight years.
Mainly focusing on video game humor and nerd culture, PvP continues to be published on weekdays for its worldwide online audience. In 2013, Kurtz created a spin-off of PvP entitled Table Titans, a webcomic based on Dungeons and Dragons. From 2011-2016, he also co-wrote The Trenches with Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, a comic that poked fun at the video game industry.
An innovative self-publisher, he manages his independent publishing company Toonhound Studios LLC. He is the co-author of How To Make Web Comics, a best-selling book with Brad Guigar, Dave Kellett, and Kris Straub. Kurtz has been recognized with several awards including the Eisner Award for Best Digital Comic and the Harvey Award for Best Online Comic Work. He has written and produced an animated series and starred in a Dungeons & Dragons-related live show. An iconic figure in comic and video game culture, Scott Kurtz is an artist with a one-of-a-kind sense of humor.
