Scott Rechsteiner, known professionally as Scott Steiner, was born on July 29, 1962, in Bay City, Michigan. His athletic foundation began in folkstyle wrestling at the University of Michigan, where he was a three-time Big Ten runner-up and an NCAA Division I All-American in 1986. He started his professional wrestling career in 1986, training under Dr. Jerry Graham Jr. and The Sheik. Early in his career, he captured the WWA World Heavyweight Championship and later achieved tag team success in the Continental Wrestling Association, winning the CWA World Tag Team Championship multiple times.
Steiner joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1989, forming a highly successful tag team with his older brother Rick, known as The Steiner Brothers. Together, they earned seven WCW World Tag Team Championships and one NWA/WCW United States Tag Team Championship. Their dominance extended to Japan, where they secured the IWGP Tag Team Championship twice in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. In 1992, Scott also found singles success by winning the WCW World Television Championship before briefly moving to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) with his brother, where they held the WWF World Tag Team Championship twice.
Following a brief stint in ECW in 1995, Steiner returned to WCW in 1996. A pivotal moment in his career occurred at SuperBrawl VIII in 1998 when he turned on his brother to join the New World Order (nWo), rebranding himself as “Big Poppa Pump.” This transformation saw him bulk up and adopt a new aggressive persona, leading to significant singles championship reigns, including two WCW United States Heavyweight Championships, two WCW World Television Championships, and ultimately, the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in 2000, making him a WCW Triple Crown Champion. After WCW was acquired by WWE in 2001, Steiner made a return to WWE in 2002, competing against top talent like Triple H. He later had a notable run in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), winning the TNA/Impact World Tag Team Championship twice. In recognition of his enduring impact on professional wrestling, Scott Steiner was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022 alongside his brother Rick.
