Christie Lee Brinkley was born on February 2, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan. Her family later moved to Los Angeles, where she was adopted by her stepfather, Donald Brinkley. After graduating from high school in 1972, she moved to Paris to pursue art studies, an experience that unexpectedly led to her discovery as a model. In 1973, American photographer Errol Sawyer discovered her in a Paris post office, capturing her first modeling pictures and introducing her to Elite Model Management.
Her career gained significant momentum with multiple appearances on the cover of Glamour magazine. A pivotal milestone was her unprecedented three consecutive covers of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 1979, 1980, and 1981, making her the first model to achieve this. This was followed by a record 25-year contract as the face of CoverGirl, one of the longest modeling contracts in history. By 2005, CoverGirl re-signed her for mature skin product campaigns. Over her career, Brinkley has graced over 500 magazine covers globally. She also ventured into acting, notably appearing as ‘The Girl in the Red Ferrari’ in National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983) and reprising the role in Vegas Vacation (1997).
Beyond modeling and acting, Brinkley became an entrepreneur and author. In 1983, she released her book, “Christie Brinkley’s Outdoor Beauty and Fitness Book,” which became a New York Times Best Seller.
