Sebastian Stan was born on August 13, 1982, in Constanta, Romania. At the age of eight, he moved with his mother to Vienna, Austria, and then to New York when he was twelve. He pursued his education at Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts and furthered his acting studies for a year at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. Upon completing his college education, Stan began his professional acting career with roles in projects such as “Law & Order” (1990), “Tony & Tina’s Wedding” (2004), and “Red Doors” (2005). He also appeared in the films “The Architect” (2006) and “The Covenant” (2006), and performed in Eric Bogosian’s theater play “The Talk” (2007).

In 2007, Stan started his recurring role as Carter Baizen in “Gossip Girl,” which brought him wider recognition. His career continued to develop with appearances in films like “Spread” (2009), “Hot Tub Time Machine” (2010), and Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” (2010). A significant turning point in his career came with his casting as Bucky Barnes in “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2011), marking his entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He further expanded his repertoire with roles in “Gone” (2012), “Political Animals” (2012), for which he received a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination, and “The Apparition” (2012). He also gained critical acclaim for his recurring role as the Mad Hatter in “Once Upon a Time” (2011-2012) and performed in Broadway’s “Picnic” in 2013.

Stan cemented his status as a prominent actor with his reprisal of Bucky Barnes as The Winter Soldier in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014), a role he continued in multiple MCU films including “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), “Black Panther” (2018), and “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018). Beyond the MCU, he took on diverse roles in films such as “Ricki and the Flash” (2015), “The Martian” (2015), and “Logan Lucky” (2017). His performance in the critically acclaimed film “I, Tonya” (2017) garnered him high praise. More recently, he earned significant critical recognition for his portrayal of Tommy Lee in the miniseries “Pam & Tommy” (2022), receiving nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. His recent work includes “A Different Man” (2024), for which he won a Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance and a Golden Globe, and his portrayal of Donald Trump in “The Apprentice” (2024), which earned him an Academy Award nomination.
