Selina Freitag

Selina Freitag was born on May 19, 2001, in Erlabrunn, Germany, and grew up in Breitenbrunn, Saxony. From a young age, Selina showed an interest in ski jumping, following in the footsteps of her father, Holger, a former ski jumper, and her brother, Richard, also an active ski jumper. She began her competitive career in various junior-level events, consistently showcasing her talent and dedication to the sport. Her early experiences in the Alpencup, FIS Cup, and Continental Cup circuits provided a foundation for her future success. By 2017, she won the overall ranking of the FIS Ski Jumping Alpen Cup, underscoring her potential.

Freitag’s career progression saw significant milestones, including her first Junior World Championships appearance in Kandersteg in the 2017/18 season, where she placed fourth with her team. The 2018/19 season marked her World Cup debut and brought her first medals at the Junior World Championships in Lahti, Finland, securing silver in the team event and bronze in the mixed team event. She continued to build on these achievements, consistently placing in the top 20 during the 2019/20 World Cup season and earning another bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Oberwiesenthal. In the 2021/22 season, she established herself as a permanent member of the World Cup team and participated in the Olympic Games for the first time in Beijing. The 2022/23 season was a breakthrough, with six World Cup podium finishes and two gold medals at the World Championships in Planica in the team and mixed team events. She continued to achieve strong results in the 2024/25 season, including multiple World Cup and Grand Prix podium finishes, and two silver medals and a bronze medal at the 2025 Trondheim World Championships in individual and team events.

Outside of ski jumping, Selina maintains a balanced life, pursuing hobbies such as playing the guitar, singing, knitting, and reading. She currently works as a custom officer, demonstrating a commitment beyond her athletic career. Throughout her journey, she has cited her brother Richard as a role model, admiring his determination. Her recent achievements, including securing multiple top-tier medals and consistent World Cup placements, establish her as a prominent figure in German ski jumping.
