Mexican speedster Sergio “Checo” Pérez is a professional racing driver, who competes in Formula 1 for Red Bull Racing. He has also driven for Sauber, McLaren, Force India, and Racing Point.
Born and raised in Mexico, Pérez grew up around sport and racing, his older brother Antonio being a stock car and NASCAR racing driver. Pérez began racing go-karts at the age of six, competing in various junior competitions to great success. He progressed through the various racing classes and became a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy.
Pérez made his F1 debut driving for Sauber in the 2011 season, and took his first podium at the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix, earning the reputation as The Mexican Wunderkind. He then joined McLaren for the 2013 season, before moving on to Force India for the 2014 season on a €15 million contract. He remained with Force India until they dissolved in 2018 and then joined Racing Point on a three-year contract for the 2019 season. He claimed his first win at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, and then signed with Red Bull Racing for the 2021 season.
