Professional athlete and world class sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson competes in the 100m and 200m events, and is the sixth fastest female sprinter of all time.
Richardson has been a talented sportswoman her whole life, taking the 100m title at the AAU Junior Olympics when she was just 16 years old and winning at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships the following year. Her international debut came at the Pan American Under 20 Athletics Championships in 2017, with the runner taking a gold in the relay and being snapped up to attend Louisiana State University. During her time at the college she became an essential part of the Lady Tigers track and field team and rose to fame after breaking the 100m world record at the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 2019. She then decided to forgo her collegiate eligibility and turn professional, qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games after her incredible performance at the US States Olympics Trials. However, she was then subject to a controversial suspension after testing positive for cannabis use, sparking debate and headlines around the world as people and pundits defended her use of the drug.
Following her suspension, Richardson is expected to make a triumphant return to the track in upcoming competitions and has already made her mark on the sport with her distinctive style and her outspoken nature.
