The incredible and inspirational Nia Ali is a track and field athlete who specialises in the 100-metre hurdles. She won a Silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in the event, and a Gold at the World Championships in 2019. She is also the 2 x Indoor World Champion at the 60-metre hurdles.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, Ali was interested in athletics from a young age and proved to be particularly talented at track and field events. Following High School, she attended the University of California, where she continued to excel at athletics. In 2011 she was the NCAA leader and the NCAA champion for the USC Trojans in the 100-metre hurdles, and was an All-American in the heptathlon. She turned pro the same year when she was selected to represent the US in China for the World University Games, where she won a Gold in the 100-metre hurdles. For the indoor events, she ran the 60-metre hurdles and in 2014 won a Gold at the World Indoor Championships. She returned to the 2016 World Indoor Championships and successfully defended her Gold. She qualified to represent the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, where she won a Silver in the 100-metre hurdles. In 2019, she won Gold for 100-metre hurdles at the IAAF World Championships in Qatar with a personal-best time of 12.34.
