About

Sherri Evonne Shepherd was born on April 22, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois. She spent her early years in Chicago before her family relocated to Hoffman Estates when she was 11. Her father, Lawrence, worked as a food service manager and church deacon, while her mother, LaVerne, cleaned homes. Shepherd began her career in stand-up comedy in 1990 while working as a legal secretary in Beverly Hills. In 1995, she decided to pursue comedy full-time. This decision led to her first series regular role on The WB’s “Cleghorne!” that same year. Despite the show lasting only one season, she continued to build her acting career, securing roles in established sitcoms like “The Jamie Foxx Show” (1996-2001) and “Less Than Perfect” (2002-2006).

Shepherd’s career progression saw her expand into daytime television. In 2007, she became a permanent co-host of ABC’s “The View,” a role she held until 2014. During her time on “The View,” she received multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations, winning one in 2009 for Outstanding Talk Show Host. She also had a recurring role as Angie Jordan on the NBC sitcom “30 Rock” from 2007 to 2013 and appeared in films such as “Precious” (2009) and “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” (2008).

In addition to her television and film work, Shepherd has authored books, including “Permission Slips: Every Woman’s Guide to Giving Herself a Break” (2009). She has also hosted various game shows, including “The Newlywed Game” (2010-2013) and “Best Ever Trivia Show” (2019). Her recent endeavors include hosting the daily syndicated daytime talk show “Sherri,” which premiered in 2022 and was renewed through 2025. Shepherd continues to engage in diverse projects across entertainment, demonstrating her versatility as a performer and host.
