Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian national team in all formats, recognized for his dynamic batting and leadership capabilities. After being instrumental in India’s victory at the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup as vice-captain, Shubman Gill earned the Player of the Tournament award for his outstanding performance, scoring 372 runs at an average of 124.00, including an unbeaten 102 in the semi-final against Pakistan U-19. His professional career began with his List A debut for Punjab in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy in February 2017. Later that year, in November 2017, he made his first-class debut for Punjab in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, where he notched a half-century and his maiden century against Services.

His maiden Test century arrived in 2022. In franchise cricket, Gill’s impact has been equally significant. He was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 for the Indian Premier League (IPL) before joining the Gujarat Titans in 2022. Displaying strong leadership, he captained the Gujarat Titans to an IPL victory in their inaugural year in 2022.

He continued this dominance in the 2023 season, emerging as the highest run-scorer and Orange Cap winner in the IPL. Demonstrating his ongoing influence and leadership, Shubman Gill was appointed Test captain for India in May 2025, subsequently scoring multiple centuries in his inaugural captaincy series against England. He has consistently received international recognition, being named ICC Men’s Player of the Month four times: in January 2023, September 2023, February 2025, and July 2025. As of 2025, Gill is also the highest run-scorer for India in the World Test Championship.
