About

Born on March 23, 1972, in Vaxjo, Sweden, Jonas Bjorkman began his tennis career at the age of six. The son of tennis coach Lars Bjorkman, he quickly developed his skills, winning the Swedish Junior Championship at 18 and ranking among the top five Swedish junior players. Bjorkman turned professional in 1991, establishing himself as a formidable presence on the ATP Tour in both singles and doubles disciplines. His early career saw him secure three Challenger singles titles in 1993 and seven doubles titles in 1994, culminating in a victory at the 1994 ATP Tour World Championships in Jakarta.

Bjorkman’s career was marked by consistent success, particularly in doubles, where he achieved a world No. 1 ranking on July 9, 2001. He compiled an impressive record of 54 doubles titles, including a career Grand Slam with nine major championships across the Australian Open (1998, 1999, 2001), French Open (2005, 2006), Wimbledon (2002, 2003, 2004), and US Open (2003). In singles, he reached a career-high ranking of world No. 4 on November 3, 1997, and won six singles titles. Notable singles achievements include reaching the semifinals of the 1997 US Open and the 2006 Wimbledon Championships at the age of 34, making him the oldest semifinalist in Wimbledon since Jimmy Connors in 1987.

Throughout his career, Bjorkman earned over $14.6 million in prize money from singles and doubles combined. He was also a key member of the Swedish Davis Cup teams that secured championships in 1994, 1997, and 1998, contributing a combined 35-23 win-loss record across singles and doubles rubbers. After retiring from professional tennis in 2008, and from doubles in 2013, Bjorkman transitioned into coaching. He notably joined Andy Murray’s coaching team in 2015 and has also coached the Swedish men’s padel team, continuing his involvement in professional sports.
