Silas Weir Mitchell has played many roles during the last 30 years, but three he is particularly well known for are Charles “Haywire” Patoshik in Prison Break, Donny Jones in My Name is Earl, and of course, Monroe in Grimm. The latter show ran for six seasons, with Mitchell one of the stars of all of them. His other recurring roles include the likes of 24, Cold Case, and Paradise Lost. His most recent roles include appearances in the likes of S.W.A.T. and Criminal Minds.
Mitchell is a descendant of the pioneering physician he is named after. However, he has made his name his own thanks to his long and successful acting career, which began in the early-mid 1990s with small roles in TV shows and movies. He played multiple roles in the likes of ER and NYPD Blue, but his first recurring role came when he appeared in two episodes of The Practice in 2000. In 2002, he played Eli Stram in six episodes of the first series of the legendary series, 24, but he hit the jackpot in 2005 when he won recurring roles in both Prison Break and My Name is Earl, two of the biggest TV shows of the time.
However, arguably Mitchell’s signature role is that of Monroe in Grimm, an NBC fantasy police procedural that ran for over 120 episodes between 2011 and 2017. In 2020, he played Boyd Suttree in Paradise Lost, a drama series also starring the likes of Josh Hartnett and Nick Nolte.
