Sofia Polcanova

Sofia Polcanova has established herself as a top-tier table tennis athlete, achieving multiple European Championship titles and consistently ranking among the continent’s best. After representing Moldova at the World Championships in 2007, Sofia Polcanova quickly rose through the ranks, joining the Linz AG Froschberg club and receiving Austrian citizenship in 2010. Her international breakthrough arrived at the 2014 European Championships in Lisbon, where she earned a silver medal as part of the Austrian team. Polcanova continued to build momentum, making her Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, solidifying her status as a formidable competitor on the global stage.

Her exceptional year continued at the European Championships in Munich, where she captured two coveted gold medals – one in singles and another in women’s doubles, again with Bernadette Sz?cs. She further added to her medal haul at the same event with a bronze medal in mixed doubles, alongside Robert Gardos. Sofia Polcanova maintained her elite competitive edge into 2024, beginning the year by earning a silver medal in the Singles at the Europe Top 16 Cup. She delivered an outstanding performance at the European Championships, securing a gold medal in Singles, a silver medal in Doubles, and another silver medal in Mixed Doubles.

Further cementing her standing among the world’s best, Polcanova reached the quarterfinals in the Singles event at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, reinforcing her reputation as a leading table tennis player in Europe.
