Floyd Eugene Bentley III, known professionally as Sprngbrk or A1 Bentley, was born on July 7, 1987, in Kansas City, Kansas. His early life involved playing basketball at Highland Community College until a leg injury ended his athletic career. Following this, Bentley developed an interest in music, beginning his journey by writing songs and rapping. His talent quickly drew the attention of an early manager, prompting his move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the music industry. During this period, Bentley experienced homelessness for eight months before a pivotal encounter with artist and producer Raphael Saadiq. Saadiq provided Bentley with studio access for six months and introduced him to Mike Caren, the former Executive President of A&R at Atlantic Records. This introduction led to Bentley securing opportunities to write for artists within Atlantic Records’ roster, including Trey Songz and Tank.

Bentley’s career saw a significant breakthrough in 2010 when he co-wrote “Unusual” for Trey Songz, featuring Drake. This track appeared on the Billboard Hot 100, reached number seven on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and earned Bentley an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Award. His songwriting and production credits expanded over the years to include projects for Tank, Chris Brown, and Jason Derulo. In 2016, Bentley released his debut single, “Upside Down,” featuring O.T. Genasis. His relationship with Chris Brown’s team deepened, leading to extensive contributions to Brown’s 2017 album, *Heartbreak on a Full Moon*. Bentley co-wrote twelve songs on this album, including the multi-platinum single “Party” featuring Usher and Gucci Mane, and the platinum single “Questions.” He also co-wrote and co-produced “No Pressure” for French Montana’s *Jungle Rules* and the platinum single “Something New” for Wiz Khalifa and Ty Dolla Sign, which gained viral popularity through a TikTok dance challenge.

In 2019, Bentley signed with T-Pain’s Nappy Boy Entertainment, releasing his debut mixtape, *Turbulence*. He subsequently rebranded himself as Sprngbrk, aiming for a “reintroduction” after his appearances on reality television. Under this new moniker, he released the single “Pride” in 2021, part of a collaboration between Nappy Boy and SoundCloud’s RePost A&R department. A significant milestone in his recent career occurred in 2022 when he co-wrote two tracks for Future’s album *I Never Liked You*, including the multi-platinum, Billboard number-one single “Wait for U.” This song also earned him a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2023. His personal life, including his marriage to Lyrica Anderson and their son, Ocean Zion Bentley, born in 2018, was featured on the reality series *Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood* from seasons 3 through 6. The couple later divorced in 2022.
