Stephanie Beatriz

Stephanie Beatriz Bischoff Alvizuri was born on February 10, 1981, in Neuquén, Argentina. She moved to the United States at the age of two, grew up in Webster, Texas, and became a U.S. citizen at 18. Her interest in acting developed after taking speech and debate in high school, leading her to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Stephens College, graduating in 2002. After college, Beatriz moved to New York City to further her acting career, later relocating to Los Angeles in 2010.

Early in her career, Beatriz performed for three seasons at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, taking on roles such as Catherine in “A View From a Bridge” (2008) and Maggie in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” (2010). She transitioned to television with minor roles in police procedurals like “The Closer” and “Southland.” A significant turning point came in 2013 when she was cast as Detective Rosa Diaz in the Fox/NBC comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” This role brought her widespread recognition and showcased her comedic and dramatic abilities over eight seasons, concluding in 2021. She also ventured into directing with the season six episode “He Said, She Said” for the same series.

Beatriz’s career continued to expand with notable film roles including Jessica in the independent feature “Short Term 12” (2013) and Bonnie in “The Light of the Moon” (2017), where she also served as an executive producer and received critical acclaim for her performance. Her voice acting career flourished with roles such as General Sweet Mayhem in “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” (2019) and, most notably, Mirabel Madrigal in Disney’s animated film “Encanto” (2021), a collaboration with Lin-Manuel Miranda that earned her chart success. She also voiced Carla in the musical film “In the Heights” (2021) and Vaggie in the adult animated musical series “Hazbin Hotel” (2024–present), further cementing her presence in both live-action and animation.
