Canadian Stephanie Horner is a successful and versatile swimmer who has represented her country at major events across the world, including three Olympic Games. She has four senior continental medals to her name, all of which were won in one sweep at the 2007 Pan Pacific Games. Since 2015, she has been a regular entrant in the legendary FINA Marathon Swimming World Series, winning one such gruelling race in her home country and placing highly in many more. In 2018, she was named the Female Open Water Swimmer of the Year by Swim Canada.
Horner’s international debut came in 2005 at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships where she instantly proved herself by winning bronze in the 200m freestyle. In 2006, she made her senior international debut at the Pan Pacific Championships, but it was at the 2007 Pan Pacific Games that she achieved her breakthrough, taking silver in the 200m freestyle, bronze in the 200m medley and two silvers as part of relay teams. She participated in both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, representing Canada across a range of events. In the 2008 400m freestyle, she achieved her personal best.
Horner began diversifying into open water swimming, qualifying for her first such event at the 2015 University World Games. That same year, she entered her first FINA Marathon Swimming World Series in Argentina. At the 2016 Olympics, she was her country’s sole representative in the 10km Open Water Marathon. More recently, she won gold in the American UANA Open Water Swimming Championships, earning her a place at the ensuing Pan Pacific Championships.
