Award-winning Broadway star and choreographer Stephanie Klemons is the Original Dance Captain and Associate choreographer of Broadway hit musical Hamilton. She was also the Dance Captain and an original cast member of In the Heights , and was the Dance Captain of If/Then starring Idina Menzel. She has recently added Direction to her impressive list of talents, and is also the founder of non-profit Katie’s Art Project.
Born in Manhattan, Klemons had a career on Broadway in her sights from being a small child. She studied at various dance studios including Gallery of Dance and Colts Neck Dance and Theater School. At her final school – Center Stage Dance & Theater School – she met teachers George Warren and Mikey Defranco who set her on the path to success with their emphasis on cathartic performance and work ethic.
Klemons made her Broadway debut as a performer in the original cast of In the Heights, and sang on the Grammy-winning album from the show. Several years later, she became Global Dance Supervisor and Associate Choreographer on the smash hit Broadway show, and as an original cast member witnessed the show go from a small idea to one of the world’s biggest musicals. The show won 11 Tony Awards including Best Choreography, and Klemons performed at the Tony Awards with the rest of the company. Since then her career has been on an unstoppable rise, and she continues to be in-demand as one of Broadway’s hottest properties.
