Stephanie Klemons has established herself as a notable Broadway performer, choreographer, and director.
Stephanie Klemons teamed up with director Jeff Madoff to choreograph a commercial for Victoria's Secret, bringing a dynamic visual to their 'Angels & Umbrella's' concept.
Stephanie Klemons was born Stephanie Crain Klemons on September 27, 1982, in Manhattan, New York. She spent her early life in Colts Neck Township, New Jersey, and graduated from Marlboro High School in 2000. During her high school years, Klemons was actively involved in dance and academics, being inducted into the National Honor Society. Her dance training began at Gallery of Dance and continued at Colts Neck Dance & Performing Arts Academy. She further pursued dance by traveling to Manhattan for classes at S.T.E.P.S., Broadway Dance Center, and Studio Maestro with Luigi. Klemons attended Rutgers University on scholarship, pursuing a double major in Genetics & Microbio Research and Modern Dance, graduating in 2004. Her academic work included contributing to cancer research, leading to a publication in the International Journal of Oncology. Following her graduation, she spent four months in Spain for a study abroad experience, where she taught English in Pozuelo de Alarcón and stayed in Oropesa.
Klemons began her Broadway career as an original cast member and Dance Captain for “In the Heights,” a role she also held for its first National Tour as Associate Choreographer. She continued her collaboration with choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, serving as Associate Choreographer for “Bring It On” for its Broadway run and two National tours. Notably, she stepped into a performance role as Alexis in the Atlanta Alliance Theater Production of “Bring It On” when the show was out of town. Her extensive work with Andy Blankenbuehler also includes additional choreography for four new numbers in the musical “Zelda” and dancing in shows like “Fly” and “Only Gold.” Beyond these collaborations, Klemons was part of the original Broadway cast of “If/Then” alongside Idina Menzel and Anthony Rapp, and performed in the first National Tour of “Bombay Dreams.”
Her career expanded into directing and choreographing for various productions and commercial projects. She served as Director and Choreographer for the New York Children’s Theater’s “Tea With Chachaji” in 2016. Klemons choreographed a Victoria’s Secret commercial with director Jeff Madoff and has choreographed for CBS, The Joyce, and the NBA’s Brooklynettes. A significant milestone in her career is her involvement with Broadway’s “Hamilton,” where she holds the roles of Associate Choreographer, Global Dance Supervisor, Dance Captain, and swing. Her diverse experience reflects a comprehensive engagement with Broadway and commercial dance, moving from performer to leadership roles in choreography and direction.
