Steve Williams began his caddying career in 1969, achieving a two-handicap in golf by 1976 and caddying for Peter Thomson at the New Zealand Open that year. He moved to the European Tour in 1979, gaining international experience before caddying for Greg Norman from 1982 to 1989, including US tours from 1988. Williams then caddied for Raymond Floyd on the PGA and Champions Tours until March 1999, when his career reached global prominence. He began his twelve-year partnership with Tiger Woods, quickly achieving their first major win at the 1999 PGA Championship, where Williams’ crucial advice secured the victory.
Beyond his on-course accomplishments, Steve Williams demonstrates a strong commitment to community and golf development. In 2001, he established a charitable foundation supporting junior golfers. His philanthropic efforts include a NZ$1 million donation to a cancer ward at Starship Children’s Health in 2008. For his services to youth sport and recreation, Williams was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2007.
Expanding his contributions, Williams co-authored ‘Together We Roared’ with Evin Priest, released in 2023, offering unique insights from his celebrated career.
