Steven E. Carr is an American attorney, entrepreneur, and social activist recognized for his influential role in international humanitarian efforts. He made history as the only American elected to the Standing Commission of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which oversees the global humanitarian network with a budget in the billions and nearly 100 million volunteers. Since his election in 2007, Carr has been a steadfast advocate for the movement’s mission and was appointed vice chair of the Commission in 2011.
Before his tenure with the Standing Commission, Carr served on the Board of Governors of the American Red Cross from 2002 to 2008, where he chaired the International Services Committee. His commitment to humanitarian causes extends to his involvement with Refugees International and various organizations in Idaho, where he has worked to improve the lives of vulnerable populations. His leadership and advocacy have significantly shaped policies aimed at enhancing global humanitarian responses.
In addition to his legal and humanitarian work, Carr contributes to public discourse through his writing. He regularly pens columns for the Idaho Falls Post Register and other regional publications, addressing social issues and advocating for community engagement. His insights reflect his deep commitment to promoting social justice and humanitarian principles.
Carr’s dedication to service is complemented by his entrepreneurial spirit, and he shares a family legacy of philanthropy through his brother, Gregory C. Carr. Together, they embody a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
