Steven Nelson

Earning second-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2014, Steven Nelson had already established a formidable collegiate career, accumulating 71 tackles and six interceptions over two years at the College of the Sequoias before transferring to Oregon State University. As a senior at Oregon State in 2014, he recorded 60 tackles and two interceptions. Nelson’s consistent performance led to him being selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round (98th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. He immediately signed a four-year, $2.91 million contract with the team, making his professional debut in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals during his rookie season.

In his first season with the Steelers, he contributed 61 tackles and one interception. The 2020 season saw him deliver another impactful performance, including two interceptions against the Philadelphia Eagles. After departing the Steelers in March 2021, Nelson swiftly secured a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in July 2021, where he started 16 games and added 50 tackles and one interception to his career statistics. In April 2022, Nelson joined the Houston Texans, continuing his consistent play in the league.

A significant moment during his time with the Texans was an 82-yard pick-six against the Cleveland Browns in the 2023 Wild Card game, showcasing his impactful defensive prowess. In June 2024, Nelson announced his retirement from the NFL. However, demonstrating his enduring dedication to the sport, he subsequently unretired and rejoined the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad in December 2024, underscoring his continued commitment to elite-level professional football.
