Susan Eisenhower, born on December 31, 1951, is the daughter of John Eisenhower and granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Following family tradition, she was presented as a debutante at the International Debutante Ball in New York City in 1970. She then established herself as a policy analyst, focusing on critical areas such as national security and strategic policy. She has also served as President of the Eisenhower Group, Inc., providing strategic counsel on political, business, and public affairs projects. Her work has included consulting for Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies operating in the former Soviet Union and advising major institutions in the energy sector.
Her career has been marked by significant academic and governmental involvement. She served as Chairman of Leadership and Public Policy Programs and Chairman Emeritus of the Eisenhower Institute. She was appointed to the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future by Secretary of Energy Steven Chu in 2010. She also served on other government task forces, including the Baker-Cutler Commission in 2000, evaluating U.S.-funded nonproliferation programs in Russia. In academia, she has been an External Advisory Board Member of the MIT Energy Initiative, an Academic Fellow of the International Peace and Security program of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and a director of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Although a lifelong Republican, she endorsed Barack Obama for president in 2008 and 2012, subsequently becoming an independent.
