Suzy Amis Cameron

Born on January 5, 1962, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Susan Elizabeth “Suzy” Amis began her career as a Ford model before transitioning to acting in the 1980s. Her film debut was in the 1985 comedy film *Fandango*, starring opposite Kevin Costner. Over the next decade, she built an acting portfolio with roles in films such as *Rocket Gibraltar* (1988), *Where the Heart Is* (1990), *Rich in Love* (1992), and *The Ballad of Little Jo* (1993). She gained further recognition for her appearances in *Blown Away* (1994), *The Usual Suspects* (1995), and notably, *Titanic* (1997), where she portrayed Rose DeWitt Bukater’s granddaughter, Lizzy Calvert. In the same year, she starred in the television Western *Last Stand at Saber River* alongside Tom Selleck and appeared in the horror film *Nadja* (1994). Amis retired from acting after her final film appearance in the science fiction action movie *Judgment Day* (1999).

Following her acting career, Amis Cameron shifted her focus to environmental activism and education. In 2005, she founded Muse Elementary (later Muse Global Schools) in Topanga, California, a Reggio-inspired, independent, non-profit school. This educational initiative later became the country’s first plant-based K-12 school with a 100% plant-based lunch program and operates as zero waste and 100% solar powered, featuring Solar Sun Flowers designed by her husband, James Cameron. In 2009, she established Red Carpet Green Dress, a global initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable fashion on red carpets like the Oscars. This initiative collaborates with various fashion brands and has featured notable ambassadors to highlight eco-friendly design solutions and repurposed materials.

Amis Cameron’s commitment to environmentalism extended to co-founding the Plant Power Task Force in 2014 with her husband and Craig McCaw, focusing on the impact of animal agriculture on climate change. This organization has supported key studies and initiatives like MyPlate MyPlanet, advocating for the integration of health and environmental concerns in dietary guidelines. She also founded Cameron Family Farms and Food Forest Organics in New Zealand, promoting regenerative agriculture practices and plant-based eating. In 2018, she authored the plant-based cookbook, *OMD: Swap One Meal a Day to Get Healthy, Live Longer, and Save the Planet*, which inspired Oprah Winfrey to adopt the “One Meal a Day” plan, further amplifying her message of sustainable living and plant-based nutrition. She has also served as an executive producer for documentaries such as *The Game Changers* (2018), *Milked* (2021), and *Junk* (2023), continuing to advocate for environmental sustainability through various media.
