Terrence Jenkins, widely known as Terrence J, was born on April 21, 1982, in Queens, New York City. He spent his formative years primarily in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. During his time at North Carolina A&T State University, he served as the Student Government Association President and worked as a DJ for both the university’s radio station WNAA and local station 102 Jamz in Greensboro. He graduated in 2004 with a degree in mass communication. This early exposure to media and leadership set the foundation for his future career in entertainment.
Terrence J’s career gained significant momentum when he became a co-host of BET’s popular music video countdown show, “106 & Park,” from 2006 to 2012. Following his departure from BET, he transitioned to E! News, serving as a co-anchor from 2012 to 2015. Concurrently, he expanded his acting portfolio with notable roles in films such as “Burlesque” (2010), “Think Like a Man” (2012), “Think Like a Man Too” (2014), and “Entourage” (2015). He also took on lead roles, including Charlie in the romantic comedy “The Perfect Match” (2016).
Beyond hosting and acting, Terrence J has ventured into production, notably as an executive producer for “Fear” (2023) and “Same Difference” (2019), and as a producer for “The Perfect Match” (2016). He authored his first book, “The Wealth of My Mother’s Wisdom,” in 2013, drawing inspiration from his mother’s life experiences. His diverse career also includes hosting events such as the “Miss USA” beauty pageant and MTV’s “Are You the One?” from 2017 to 2019.
