The Kaplan Twins’ are two female digital artists, Allie and Lexie who have a strong focus on the complexities of today’s celebrity culture. They comment on such topics through the eyes of their millennial generation and they strive to encourage conversations whilst simultaneously breaking societal taboos and clichés, viewing the media headlines through a very different lens.
The pair graduated from NYU in 2015, both with a BFA in Fine Art with a concentration in painting. Their work has featured in De Re Gallery, We Rise Gallery, and the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery, and they also performed a live piece in 2017 during Art Basel Miami Beach at the Delano Hotel. In 2018 the ambitious, unapologetic duo debuted their new series in the hotel lobby of Montauk Beach House, with Roman Fine Art. Their work is included in numerous private and celebrity collections worldwide and they have featured in countless esteemed publications such as W Magazine, Vanity Fair, The Times UK, Teen Vogue, Playboy to name a few.
Notable for their nude depictions of personalities like Emily Ratajkowski and Kim Kardashian West, The Kaplan Twins’ most recent paintings utilise the bizarre, quirky and intriguing culture of online fame whilst exploring new modes of communication and how language has evolved. The daring duo’s previous collections have ruffled a few feathers; dubbed “self-aware, ‘sexploitation’ art” by W magazine. In their new series of oil paintings. The Twins are certainly not as straightforward as they seem; they use their revolutionary brand of humour and wit to dissect our constantly evolving language and persuade audiences to re-examine the nature of language.
