The Wardog

Dan DaSilva, known as “The Wardog,” was born on April 30, 1985, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He embarked on a career in professional ice hockey, playing as a right winger. DaSilva’s ice hockey career spanned from 2005 to 2020, during which he played for various teams across different leagues. He began his major junior hockey career with the Portland Winter Hawks in the Western Hockey League (WHL). His performance during this period led to him being named to the WHL West Second All-Star Team in 2005. After his junior career, DaSilva signed as a free agent with the Colorado Avalanche in 2005, playing for their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Lowell Lock Monsters.

Throughout his professional hockey career, DaSilva played for multiple teams in the AHL and ECHL, including the Albany River Rats, Lake Erie Monsters, Worcester Sharks, Phoenix RoadRunners, San Diego Gulls, Ontario Reign, and Houston Aeros. A significant portion of his career was spent with the Worcester Sharks, where he became the franchise leader in post-season points. In 2011, he moved to Europe, playing for HC Lev Poprad in the KHL, followed by stints in Switzerland with HC La Chaux-de-Fonds and EHC Olten. He later played in Germany for Augsburger Panther in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga and for five seasons with EHC Black Wings Linz in the Austrian Hockey League before retiring from playing in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following his retirement from professional ice hockey, Dan DaSilva transitioned into coaching. In 2021, he joined the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League as an assistant coach for the 2021–22 season. In 2019, he gained wider recognition as a contestant on the reality television show *Survivor: Edge of Extinction*. During his time on *Survivor*, he was known by his nickname “Wardog,” which he earned during his military service. His strategic approach to the game earned him both praise and criticism from viewers.
