The science writer, broadcaster and comedian, Timandra Harkness is well-known for her articles that examine all areas of technology, published in publications including, the Guardian, the Telegraph and Wired. She is also the author of the critically acclaimed book Big Data: does size matter?
After winning a competition in the Independent with her piece on goat-borrowing, Harkness has gone on to write for an array of National publications from the Sunday Times to Men’s Health, as well as the journal of the Royal Statistical Society. In 2016 she published her book Big Data: does size matter? Packed with a collection of fascinating data stories, the book walks readers through the basics of data through to the big questions, examining where data is taking us. Also a well-known presenter, Harkness presents the popular BBC Radio 4 series FutureProofing and How To Disagree. She has also presented a number of documentaries including Data, Data Everywhere and Supersense Me & The Singularity.
Alongside her career as an award-winning writer and broadcaster, Harkness is also a standup comedian and has performed two hit solo comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival including Your Days Are Numbered: the maths of death and her 2019 show Take A Risk. Harkness is also a visiting fellow at the University of Winchester and the Royal Statistical Society where she lectures in big data and information rights.
