Timothy Ugbedo Omaji, known by his stage name Timomatic, was born in Kaduna, Nigeria, on September 9, 1987. He moved to Australia at 10 months old with his family, whose musical background influenced his early development. By age nine, he was the percussionist in a family band, and by 15, he earned the nickname ‘Timomatic’ for his hip-hop dancing. He further developed his artistic skills as artistic director and choreographer for Canberra’s Kulture Break dance company, performing internationally in the United States, China, and Singapore. Following a brief enrollment at the University of Canberra, he pursued formal music training at JMC Academy, obtaining a diploma in entertainment with a vocal training major in 2008.
Timomatic’s career gained public attention through reality television in Australia. In 2009, he reached the top eight on ‘So You Think You Can Dance Australia.’ He then played Tyrone Jackson in ‘Fame the Musical’ in 2010 but withdrew due to a back injury, shifting his focus to music production and songwriting. In 2011, he appeared on ‘Australia’s Got Talent,’ finishing third. Later that year, he signed with Sony Music Australia, releasing his debut single ‘Set It Off,’ which achieved number two on the ARIA Singles Chart and was certified four times platinum.
