Kevin Kilbane

Kevin Daniel Kilbane, born on February 1, 1977, in Preston, Lancashire, began his professional football journey with his hometown club, Preston North End, emerging from their youth system. His notable performances quickly led to a £1 million transfer to West Bromwich Albion in 1997, setting a new club record. Kilbane spent two years at West Bromwich Albion, making 106 appearances and scoring 15 goals. In December 1999, he moved to Sunderland for £2.5 million, where he continued to play in the Premier League, featuring in 113 matches and scoring 8 goals before his tenure concluded in 2003.

Kilbane’s career progression saw him join Everton for just under £1 million in 2003, where he played 104 matches over three years, earning appreciation for his commitment and versatility across various midfield and defensive roles. He then moved to Wigan Athletic in 2006 for an estimated fee of £2 million, where he made 76 appearances and was recognized with the Wiganer.net’s Player of The Season Award in 2008. Kilbane continued his club career with Hull City in 2009, making 51 appearances, and had loan spells at Huddersfield Town and Derby County before concluding his playing career at Coventry City in 2012. Throughout his club career, Kilbane was known for his dedication and ability to adapt to different positions.

Internationally, Kilbane represented the Republic of Ireland, earning 110 caps between 1997 and 2011. He was a key member of the squad that participated in the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea, where the team reached the knockout stages. Post-retirement from playing, Kilbane developed a successful media career, becoming an analyst for Virgin Media Television (Ireland), BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC’s Match of the Day, Football Focus, Final Score, and Canada’s The Sports Network (TSN). He also co-hosts Newstalk Radio’s Off The Ball football show in Ireland and participated in the twelfth series of Dancing on Ice in 2020.
