Tom Bosworth is a record-smashing British athlete and Olympic race walker. Best known for holding three World Bests, including for the 1 Mile Race Walk, Bosworth is an Olympic Games finalist and celebrated athlete.
Born in Kent, Bosworth has enjoyed a glittering career since beginning athletics at just eleven years old. Bosworth began training full-time at nineteen after starting his studies at Leeds Beckett University. He made his Great Britain debut in 2009, kicking off his professional career with a bang. In the years since, Bosworth has competed in every major championship including the Commonwealth Games, finishing eleventh in his debut in Dehli, the Olympics, and dozens of World and European championships.
His career highlights include winning a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, placing 6th at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, and ranking 7th at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha in 2019. He has won six British Outdoor Championships in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 and holds several records. Currently, Bosworth ranks first overall in the UK for 20km race walking and trains at the UK Race Walking Centre at Leeds Met University in Leeds.
When not race walking, Bosworth is a champion for LGBT rights and mental health, speaking openly about both topics online, on national television and in the press. He has appeared on Sky TV’s Game Changers, Eurosport and Victoria Derbyshire and has been interviewed by and written for the BBC, SkySports and the Telegraph. Bosworth also regularly visits schools and universities to discuss his experiences, both as an athlete and as someone in the LGBT community.
