Usman Khawaja has transitioned from a decorated cricketer to an advocate for diversity and inclusion, leveraging his platform to inspire future generations. After making history in January 2011 by becoming the first Muslim and first Pakistani-born Australian to represent Australia in Test cricket during the Ashes series, Usman Khawaja went on to establish a decorated career. Khawaja made his first-class debut for New South Wales in 2008 and achieved the unique feat of hitting consecutive double centuries for the NSW Second XI. His early career saw him recognized as the Player of the Australian Under-19 Championship in 2005 and the Australian Domestic Player of the Year in 2011.
Beyond the cricket field, Khawaja is a qualified commercial and instrument-rated pilot, holding a bachelor’s degree in aviation. He is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in sports, having founded the Usman Khawaja Foundation to provide educational and cricketing opportunities for disadvantaged youth. He also serves as a Multicultural Ambassador for Cricket Australia, advocating for social and human rights to promote equality and challenge double standards.
