While a feat like this doesn't go unnoticed, it was almost by chance that Vescovo found a partner in watch brand Omega. Omega ambassador Victor Lance Vescovo is a special person in many ways. We talk about oceans, mountains, space and watches.
Born in Dallas, Texas, Victor Lance Vescovo holds degrees from Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard Business School. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve as an intelligence officer, retiring as a Commander in 2013. From 2000 to 2023, Vescovo was a co-founder and managing partner of the private equity company Insight Equity Holdings. His exploratory endeavors commenced with the achievement of the Explorers Grand Slam, which involved scaling the highest peak on each continent and traveling to both the North and South Poles, including skiing the “Last Degree” to each pole. On May 24, 2010, he summited Mount Everest, marking a significant milestone in his adventuring career.
In 2018, Vescovo initiated the Five Deeps Expedition, an unprecedented undertaking to visit the deepest known point in each of Earth’s five oceans. This required extensive planning, significant investment, and the development of new technology, including the deep-sea submersible DSV Limiting Factor, designed with Triton Submarines. The expedition successfully completed its objectives ahead of schedule in 2019, making multiple record-breaking dives to previously unvisited ocean depths, such as the Puerto Rico Trench and the Molloy Deep. His dives included the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, which he has visited fifteen times. In 2019, Guinness World Records recognized Vescovo as the first person to reach both Earth’s highest and lowest points.
Demonstrating continued exploration, Vescovo has also engaged in significant maritime history exploration, including the first revisit to the RMS Titanic wreck in 15 years in 2019. He piloted his submersible to the wreck of the French submarine Minerve in 2020 and identified the deepest shipwrecks ever surveyed: the USS Johnston in 2021 and the USS Samuel B. Roberts in 2022. In 2022, he flew to space on the Blue Origin NS-21 mission, becoming the first person to climb Everest, visit the ocean’s deepest depth, and travel to space. Vescovo continues to advocate for safe and responsible exploration, emphasizing adherence to industry standards.
