Victoria Demchenko is a Russian luger, who has competed all around the world and took home the bronze medal at the 2020 World Championships.
This world class athlete was always destined to become great, with her father being former luger Albert Demchenko and coaching her from a young age. He is also the coach of the Russian team, and his daughter looks set to follow in his footsteps as a successful luger. She competed at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games and burst onto the international team when she was still a teenager, with her first World Cup podium finish in 2015/2016. Demchenko also took home a gold at the same competition and repeated her performance the following year with another gold medal.
Over the next few years she gained a reputation as one of the best athletes on the scene with numerous World Cup medals and her best season yet in 2018/2019. She won two gold medals in the women’s singles sprint and in the team relay at the competition in her home town of Russia before qualifying to compete in both the World Championships and the European Championships in 2020. This impressive athlete took home a bronze at both competitions, once again proving herself to be a formidable competitor on the luge track. Demchenko looks set to continue her winning streak, with her sights set on another Winter Olympic appearance.
