About

Mark Sinclair, known professionally as Vin Diesel, was born on July 18, 1967, in Alameda County, California. He later moved to New York City and was raised by his mother, an astrologer, and his adoptive African-American father, an acting instructor and theater manager. Diesel attended Hunter College in New York City, where he pursued creative writing, a path that led him to screenwriting. His early career saw him working as a bouncer and telemarketer to support his acting aspirations. He made his stage debut at age seven in the play ‘Dinosaur Door’ at Theater for the New City, an opportunity that arose after an incident where he and his friends were caught attempting to vandalize the theater but were instead offered roles.

Diesel’s early filmmaking efforts include the short drama ‘Multi-Facial’ (1995), which he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in, depicting a multiracial actor navigating the audition process. This film was screened at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. He followed this with his feature debut, ‘Strays’ (1997), an urban drama also written, directed, and produced by him, which premiered at the Sundance Festival. His talent caught the attention of Steven Spielberg, leading to his first major Hollywood role as Private Adrian Caparzo in ‘Saving Private Ryan’ (1998). In 1999, he provided the voice for the title character in the animated film ‘The Iron Giant’.

Diesel achieved widespread recognition and action star status with his role as Dominic Toretto in ‘The Fast and the Furious’ (2001), a franchise he has continued to lead through multiple successful installments. He further solidified his position with roles in ‘XXX’ (2002) as Xander Cage and ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ series. Beyond acting, Diesel is a notable entrepreneur in the entertainment industry, having founded the production company One Race Films, the record label Racetrack Records, and the video game developer Tigon Studios, where he contributes voice and motion capture to all releases. In 2013, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, acknowledging his significant contributions to film.
