He initially pursued a pre-medical path at Duke University, earning a Bachelor of Art degree, magna cum laude. However, his passion for performing led him to pivot after being accepted into an elite MFA musical theater program at the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where he earned his Master of Fine Arts.

Lazar’s career in entertainment spans over two decades, marked by significant roles on Broadway, in television, and in film. His Broadway credits include eleven productions such as ‘The Light in the Piazza’ as Fabrizio Naccarelli (2005-2006), ‘Les Misérables’ as Enjolras (2006-2007), which earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination, ‘A Little Night Music’ as Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm (2009-2010), and ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ as Larry Murphy (2018-2019). He has also performed in national tours for ‘The Scarlet Pimpernel’ and ‘Dear Evan Hansen’. On screen, Lazar has appeared in notable films like ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ (2013) as Blair Hollingsworth, ‘J. Edgar’ (2011) as David T. Wilentz, ‘This Is Where I Leave You’ (2014) as Barry Weissman, and ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ (2022) as a TV Musical – Soldier. His television work includes series such as ‘Filthy Rich’ (2020) where he played Reverend Paul Luke Thomas for 10 episodes, ‘Yellowstone’ (2022) as Robert Baldus, ‘The Good Fight’ (2018) as William Sattmann, and ‘Quantico’ (2016) as Paul.

Beyond his acting, Lazar is also an accomplished singer and entrepreneur. In 2009, he founded Integrated Arts, a company focused on merging arts and education. He has performed as a soloist with various symphonies, including the New York Philharmonic and the NYPops at Carnegie Hall. In August 2024, Lazar released his album ‘Impossible Dream’, featuring collaborations with artists like Sting, Josh Groban, and Kristin Chenoweth, which subsequently received a Grammy Award nomination for ‘Best Classical Compendium’. In January 2024, Lazar publicly shared his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), becoming an advocate for the ALS community and using his platform to raise awareness.
