About

Vitantonio Liuzzi, born on August 6, 1980, in Locorotondo, Italy, began his racing career at the age of nine in karting. He quickly demonstrated significant talent, winning the Italian Karting Championship in 1993 and placing second in the Karting World Championship in 1995. His karting career culminated in a victory at the direct-drive Karting World Championship in 2001, where he notably defeated Formula One champion Michael Schumacher on his home track in Kerpen. This early success set the stage for his progression into higher echelons of motorsport. After his karting achievements, Liuzzi moved into junior formulae. He finished second in the 2001 German Formula Renault Championship and joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2002, competing in the German Formula Three Championship. In 2003, he raced in International Formula 3000, finishing fourth overall. The following year, racing with Arden International in the 2004 International Formula 3000 Championship, he dominated the season by winning seven out of ten races, securing the title with a race to spare. This championship win marked him as the last-ever Formula 3000 champion before the series was replaced by GP2.

Liuzzi’s performance in Formula 3000 led to his Formula One debut in 2005 with Red Bull Racing. He initially shared a driving role with Christian Klien, making four starts and scoring his maiden point at the San Marino Grand Prix. In 2006, he secured a full-time seat with Scuderia Toro Rosso, Red Bull’s junior team, where he scored the team’s first point at the United States Grand Prix. He continued with Toro Rosso in 2007, showcasing strong qualifying performances despite reliability issues. In 2008, he joined Force India as a test driver and later returned to a race seat for the final five races of the 2009 season. He continued with Force India in 2010, achieving his career-best points finish with 21 points and an impressive sixth place at the Korean Grand Prix. In 2011, he moved to HRT Formula 1 Team, competing in 18 races. Beyond Formula One, Liuzzi has competed in various series including the Speedcar Series, A1 Grand Prix, International Superstars Series (finishing 2nd in 2012 and 3rd in 2013), Super GT, Super Formula, and Formula E. He has also taken on roles such as an FIA Driver Steward, contributing his expertise to the sport.
