Brazillian footballer Willian Borges da Silva, known more commonly just as Willian, plays for both his home country and Chelsea Football Club.
Willian was part of Corinthians’ youth academy in his native Brazil, where he raced through the training programme and appeared in 29 games for the club. In 2007, he transferred to Shakhtar Donetsk where he spent the next six years. He had a highly successful run with the team, playing in the Ukrainian Cup, Champions League, and the UEFA Europa League. In 2013 Willian was bought by Russian team Anzhi Makhachkala and just a few months later this in-demand player made the move to Chelsea, where he has played ever since. He has become a key player in the Premier League, being named both Chelsea Fan’s Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year for the 2015-2016 season. Willian has made over 300 appearances for Chelsea to date and is now a firm favourite at the club.
As well as his club career, Willian also plays at an international level for his home country, having been part of the Brazilian side since 2011. His agility and technical skill mean he is regularly selected to represent his country at the FIFA World Cup and the Copa America, with his tricks and tactical players regularly confusing his opponents. Willian already has many years of success behind him, and doesn’t look ready to step off the pitch anytime soon.
