Former professional English football player and coach, David May, continues to be a familiar and welcome face to many football fans around the world. Moving seamlessly between the centre-back and right-back positions throughout the years, May’s playing career spanned just under two decades, during which he made two hundred and forty-four performances and scored thirteen goals – six of which were at Manchester United between 1994 and 2003.
He’s also played for the Blackburn Rovers, Huddersfield Town, Bacup Borough, and Burnley, where he captained several times. With two Premier League winner’s medals and several other honours under his belt, he was more than qualified for the assistant manager position he assumed at Bacup Boroough following his retirement.
May maintains his loyalty to Manchester United, appearing at many of their fundraising and charity events as a speaker. With a football career that was driven by passion and strength of character, he translates stories and lessons from his early days as a schoolboy player to working his way up to a professional level of play into captivating speeches that keeps both fans and players of the game engaged. He also teaches football at a school in Dubai. Fans can catch the veteran player, fondly remembered for his personality and on-field antics, as a presenter Thursday Focus; a weekly show which airs Thursdays on Manchester United’s TV station, MUTV.
