About

Yukiyo Mine, born on January 26, 1988, in Fukuoka, Japan, is a decorated softball player who has achieved significant success as a catcher. Her career highlights include participating in multiple Olympic Games, where she contributed to Japan’s gold medal victories. Mine has consistently demonstrated her abilities on the international stage, earning recognition for her defensive skills and leadership behind the plate.

Mine first gained international prominence at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, where, at 20 years old, she was the catcher for the Japanese team that secured the gold medal. This historic win marked Japan’s first Olympic gold in softball. After this achievement, she continued her career, participating in two consecutive WBSC Women’s Softball World Championships in 2012 and 2014, where Japan won gold medals in both tournaments. In 2014, Mine initially retired from the sport. However, following the announcement in August 2016 that softball would return to the Olympics for the Tokyo 2020 Games, she decided to come out of retirement to pursue a second Olympic gold medal. She earned a spot on Japan’s preliminary roster for the Tokyo Olympics after the 2020 Japan Softball League.

Her dedication culminated in another Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where she again played a crucial role as part of the Japanese National Team. Mine’s career is defined by her multiple gold medals at various top-tier international competitions, establishing her as one of the most successful catchers in the sport. She has played for the Toyota Red Terriers and has been recognized as a Symbol Athlete by the Japanese Olympic Committee, serving as an ambassador and role model for the Japanese Olympic movement.
