Russian mixed martial artist Zabit Magomedsharipov competes in the featherweight division of the UFC and is a former featherweight champion.
Magomedsharipov was always a talented athlete, training in freestyle wrestling and sanda from the age of 10 years old. He then joined specialist martial arts school Pyat Storon Sveta where he had intensive training in martial arts and finished his education. His professional debut came in 2012 when he was 21, and he was part of several different promotions before joining the Absolute Championship Berkut promotion. He worked his way up to be named featherweight champion in 2016 and the following year was signed with internationally reknowned promotion the Ultimate Fighting Championship where he has stayed ever since. Magomedsharipov has won every fight he has competed in with the promotion so far, also being honoured with two Performance of the Night awards and two Fight of the Night awards. His talents have also been recognised by several MMA outlets including MMADNA.nl and the World MMA Awards, with honours such as 2017 European Newcomer of the Year and 2018 Submission of the Year.
At the start of 2021, Magomedsharipov was ranked as the number 3 fighter in the UFC featherweight division. Following a brief hiatus from the sport in which Magomedsharipov underwent surgery, he is set to make a triumphant return to the ring in the coming months after making a full recovery.
