Zoey Deutch

Zoey Francis Chaya Thompson Deutch was born on November 10, 1994, in Los Angeles, California, to director Howard Deutch and actress-director Lea Thompson. She began her acting career at 15 in 2010 on Disney Channel’s “The Suite Life on Deck,” followed by a recurring role in The CW’s “Ringer” from 2011 to 2012. Her early film work included a small role in “Mayor Cupcake” (2011) alongside her mother and sister, and a deleted scene in “The Amazing Spider-Man” (2012). Deutch’s breakthrough came with a supporting role in the 2013 fantasy-romance-drama “Beautiful Creatures,” a film based on a popular young adult novel. She also appeared in television series such as “NCIS,” “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior,” and “Switched at Birth” during this period.

Deutch transitioned to leading roles in 2014, starring as Rosemarie Hathaway in “Vampire Academy.” Although the film marked her first lead, her performance was noted as a breakout. In the following years, she took on diverse projects including Richard Linklater’s “Everybody Wants Some!!” (2016), “Dirty Grandpa” (2016) opposite Robert De Niro and Zac Efron, and “Why Him?” (2016) with James Franco and Bryan Cranston. She starred in “Before I Fall” (2017), an adaptation of a best-selling young adult novel, which critics cited as a significant milestone in her career. She also produced and starred in “The Year of Spectacular Men” (2017), directed by her mother, and appeared as Oona O’Neill in “Rebel in the Rye” (2017).

Her career further solidified with roles in Netflix’s romantic comedy “Set It Up” (2018), where she reunited with co-star Glen Powell, and “The Professor” (2018) alongside Johnny Depp. In 2019, Deutch played a lead role in the crime comedy-drama “Buffaloed,” a film she also co-produced, garnering positive reviews for her performance. The same year, she starred in “Zombieland: Double Tap” and appeared in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician” (2019–2020), which earned a Golden Globe nomination. In 2020, Forbes recognized her on their 30 Under 30 list. More recently, she starred in and produced “Not Okay” (2022) for Searchlight/Hulu and “Something from Tiffany’s” (2022) for Amazon/Hello Sunshine. Her performance as Jean Seberg in Richard Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague” (2025) earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination and critical acclaim for her portrayal.
