Shooting sensation Zorana Arunović is a former world champion of 10 metre air pistol from Serbia. Arunović was named as the Serbian Sportswoman of The Year for 2010 – the year she became the 10 metre air pistol world champion in Munich. She is a two-time Olympian, and is now focussed on preparing for a place at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
Born in Belgrade, Arunović was encouraged to start shooting in 2001 by her sister Jelena Arunović – also a successful shooter and now Arunović’s coach. She first rose to prominence at the European Championship in Győr in 2004 when she won a silver medal as part of the junior team. Her first individual success came in Moscow at the 2006 European Junior Championships, when she took home individual and team gold medals.
Whilst rising through the ranks Arunović picked up several medals at different levels, but is known best for winning the 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championships. Arunović won the gold medal in 10 m Air Pistol individual event and also bagged a team silver medal in 25 m Pistol alongside her sister Jelena and teammate Jasna Šekarić. Later in 2010 she climbed to Number 1 in the ISSF World Ranking. Two years later, she narrowly missed out on a medal at the London 2012 Summer Olympics, finishing in 4th place in the 25m pistol and 7th in the 10m air pistol. She qualified for the Rio Summer Olympics in 2016 and finished the Women’s 10m air pistol in 11th place. With an impressive shooting career already under her belt, Arunović has now climbed back to the top of the ISSF World Ranking.
