The new venture will give DJs access to a broad catalogue of music, alongside exclusive pre-release content from established promo pool DJcity.

Leading digital music retailer Beatport have announced the launch of a new “digital music retail experience”, created in partnership with Los Angeles-based DJcity, a promo pool and provider of curated selections, custom-produced edits and remixes. Aimed directly at the open-format DJ community, Beatsource hopes to “provide open-format DJs with a fully integrated and highly curated music experience.”

Launching in Q2 2019, Beatsource will utilise DJcity’s focused expertise and established brand to engineer an innovative platform founded on Beatport’s existing technology and infrastructure. As the DJ community’s leading online retailer, Beatport has an active user base of over 450,000, with over 35 million annual website visitors.

By integrating DJcity’s promo pool functionality into their new platform, Beatport are likely to further expand their user base and strengthen their brand by breaking into the open-format DJ market. DJcity will continue to provide music to existing clients and maintain their promo pool operation, eventually re-branding to focus their operations on Beatsource.

Beatsource will host it’s own online download store, separate to the Beatport platform. The service will take advantage of Beatport LINK, a “subscription service that allows music to be played directly into performance software”. This functionality has yet to be implemented, but will eventually allow DJs to stream music directly from Beatport from within their performance software, thanks to integrative technology designed in partnership with brands like Native Instruments and Serato.

Our Label Services department works with over 250 imprints, distributing music to all major streaming services and online music retailers, including Beatport, Spotify, and Apple Music.
